Career Technical Education
Career Technical Education
CTE provides students with the academic and technical skills, knowledge and training necessary to succeed in future careers or post-secondary opportunities in respective career sectors. CTE courses, programs, and training focus on the technical and academic skills needed to attain and maintain high-skill, high-salary, and high-demand careers. A quality CTE experience offers opportunity for learning in Career Awareness, Career Exploration, and Career Readiness for students at a variety of grade levels.
Central Unified offers courses from the 15 career industry sectors. In addition to technical training and career fundamentals, these courses also offer a wide range of additional educational benefits, including academic rigor, critical thinking development, technical literacy, public speaking skills, leadership development, and planning/organization skills. Qualifying courses and course instructors also offer dual enrollment college credits, industry certification, and practical training for students.
Regional Occupational Program (ROP)
Central ROP works in partnership and with the guidance of Fresno CTE/ROP, which is under the auspice of the Office of the Fresno County Superintendent of Schools. Fresno CTE/ROP is dedicated to providing quality CTE classes to its 22 member districts in Fresno, Madera and Mariposa counties. Central Unified is one of the original six districts served by Fresno CTE/ROP.
The primary function of ROPs as part of a comprehensive CTE system is to provide higher-level (capstone) courses for students in grades eleven and twelve that may lead to industry certification, dual enrollment with a local community college, and attainment of the skills and knowledge to benefit them in post-secondary placements.
