Kicking off Black History Month

Moneshia Washington, a 9th grader at Justin Garza High School and president of her Black Student Union club, spoke at the Central Unified School District Board of Trustees meeting on January 28, 2025, to kick off Black History Month. She highlighted Marjorie Lee Browne, a pioneering mathematician and educator, to recognize lesser-known Black individuals who have contributed to education. With confidence and passion, Moneshia emphasized the importance of perseverance, leadership, and the impact of education on future generations. Her speech resonated with the audience, inspiring them to celebrate the achievements of those often overlooked. Through her words, she encouraged others to continue learning about and honoring Black history beyond February.
