San Joaquin Valley Black Expo
African-American students from all four high schools attended the fourth annual San Joaquin Valley Black Expo held at California State University, Fresno. They participated in the Education Pillar, where the call to action was “Access to a Quality Education for Black Students in the Valley.” Information focused on equal access to higher education opportunities and healthcare for underrepresented black students in the Central Valley. Central East High School Alumna MyTe’Anna Wynn-Johnson (class of 2011) spoke about her experience as a student at Fresno State in her undergraduate and graduate programs. Students heard an encouraging and motivating message from Dr. Kent Willis, Vice President of Student Affairs and Enrollment. They listened to Sade Johnson's Black Student Success Initiative program overview and other speakers who discussed programs to support students.
